BackPack Safety

In the last decade pediatric chiropracters have seen an increase in back problems due to the increased weight and misuse of school backpacks. Without correction, these problems become worse as children grow older. Here are some simple tips for using a backpack correctly.

1. Pack light or your back will hurt. Your backpack should weigh less than 5-10% of your weight.

2. Don't let your backpack hang more than 4 inches below your belt or it will strain your shoulders.

3. Pull the straps for a tight fit. Loose straps can make your spine crooked.

Swimming safety

Swim Safe.

It's fun to swim but remember to be safe. It's important for you to have a lifeguard or an adult watch you. You shouldn't run or push people around. You should also be careful of where you swim and don't dive in shallow water. If you are not a good swimmer, you should avoid the water unless you have a flotation device and a swimming instructor with you.

Parent/Teacher Note:
Water safety is incredibly important. Drowning kills children worldwide and is the second leading cause of deaths in children aged 1-14. Even non-fatal accidents can cause serious brain damage and other disabilities.
Two of the best ways to prevent drowning is to teach kids how to swim safely and to be extra watchful of your child when they are by water.
